Sciatica has many symptoms and chiropractic care can help manage or eliminate them completely. Let Lubbock Advanced Physical Medicine help you with your recovery.

.

Numbness

People with sciatica tend to have a feeling of numbness down their leg. Numbness can occur in one or both legs and there can be a pain in one leg and numbness in the other. The numbness can be caused by a herniated disc that is putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. If self-care treatment doesn’t work or the pain gets worse, it’s best to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Tingling Sensation

People suffering from this symptom claim it’s similar to when your arm or leg falls asleep. The difference is the painful sensation doesn’t go away. The tingling feels like a pins and needles sensation and is most common in the foot and surrounding area.

Inflammation and Swelling

While this symptom is common and can be treated with over-the-counter medication, this symptom should be taken seriously. Swollen feet and legs tend to accompany other symptoms such as numbness and weakness.

Muscle Weakness

Some people experience muscle weakness in their lower back and legs. This can cause them to stop exercising and walking therefore causing other symptoms which could make the pain worse. The muscle weakness tends to go away on its own without medication. If it doesn’t go away on its own, it’s important to schedule an appointment for a proper diagnosis.

Sciatic Nerve Pain

The most common symptom associated with sciatica, sciatic nerve pain can cause a shooting pain starting in your lower back and moving down one or both of your legs. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and when it is compressed, it can make the simplest tasks such as walking or sitting unbearable. Sciatic nerve pain can become worse if you overexert yourself or even cough or sneeze.
